Sensationalism

In journalism and mass media, sensationalism is a type of editorial tactic. Events and topics in news stories are selected and worded to excite the greatest number of readers and viewers. This style of news reporting encourages biased or emotionally loaded impressions rather than neutrally, and may cause a manipulation to the truth of a story.

Gatekeeping

Gatekeeping is the process through which information is filtered for dissemination, whether for publication, broadcasting, the internet, or some other mode of communication. Gatekeeping occurs at all levels of the media structure- from a reporter deciding which sources are presented in a headline story to editors choosing which stories are printed or covered.

Task 9- Computer Games
Sandbox games

Formats

The term sandbox is recognisable from its usage in tech or an open-ended mode mode available within certain games. It's associated with player choice, open environments, and non-linear gameplay.

In these games, players often have less concrete goals and narrative pathways to pursue. Instead of beating the boss and saving the princess, players face a variety of tasks that can be accomplished in a number of different ways. This helps to draw players into a more immersive experience, encouraging experimentation with possible unfamiliar mechanics to the player.

Simulation games such as The Sims are being talked up as sandbox titles, as are many other popular franchises, including Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto. As game worlds expand and narratives diversify, there will be much more overlap with genre in the future

Terraria

Real-time strategy (RTS)

Originally coined as a marketing term for Westwood Studios' Dune II, RTGS existed years before most gamers knew about the genre. Thanks to their continued popularity and the growth of new subgenres, RTS games remain a prominent part of the gaming world. In the archetypal RTS, Dune II, human and AI players control different factions and compete against each other simultaneously in "real time", hence the term "real-time strategy" instead of turn based strategy.

Warcraft, Age of Empires, and command & conquer are among the most popular RTS titles.

Examples of RTS games

Shooter (FPS & TPS)

The shooter is a long-standing genre which has formed into two primary sub-genres: First person shooters (FPS) and third-person shooters (TPS). There is a lot of overlap between the two because many games allow you to toggle between first and third-person viewpoints. Also, many battle royal games operate as either first or third person shooters, including Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG).

The key difference between the two is perspective. A regular FPS game simulates a typical viewpoint, Showing what your character would see in games such as half-life, Call of Duty, and DOOM. A TPS pulls out and shows the perspective, including your character and the surrounding environment.

The premise for these games is simple, but it's been repackaged in many ways over the years.

Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA)

A popular subgenre with links to a number of different styles, multiplayer online battle arena games share many features with real time strategy games. The major difference between MOBAs and RTS games is the player's character role. In a MOBA, you may have a faction alignment and many of the RTS basics in play, but you typically only control a single character. That's a significant contrast with most RTS games, where you build communities and command multiple units. MOBA games also prioritise multiplayer and team play. While some well-known titles feature AI-controlled elements, you usually play with and compete against other players to meet a set of victory conditions.

Role playing games (RPG,ARPG, and more)

The basic premise of the role-playing game is simple and ubiquitous in numerous games: you create or take control of a character that you can level up through experience points. RPGs are a cornerstone of gaming, but no single game can represent the genre because it's grown and blossomed into numerous sub-genres.

Here are some of the most popular sub-genres:

-RPG: Encompasses a variety of different niches and sub-genres, ranging from tabletop gaming with cards and dice (Dungeons & Dragons) to video game RPGs (fallout).

-ARPG: Action RPGs have a strong emphasis on combat but include many of the characteristics of a standard RPG, like The Witcher 3.

-CRPG: "computer RPG" is typically used to describe Western-developed RPGs created for PC ganers, like the first two fallout games

-MMORPG: Combines the massively multiplayer online genre

Augmented reality in gaming

Augmented reality gaming (AR gaming) is the real-time integration of virtual game elements with the physical environment of the player. Augmented reality games detect the real world and then overlay game visuals and audio using sensors such as cameras, microphones and global positioning system (GPS).

Popular examples of augmented reality games include Pokemon go, ingress, and Jurassic world alive

Persistent worlds

A persistent world (PW) is a virtual world that continues to exist even after a user exits the world, and user-made changes to it state are, to some extent, permanent. It is commonly used to define MMORPGs and persuasive games. Examples of persistent worlds that exist in video games include Battle Dawn, EVE online, and Realms of Trinity.

Virtual reality

Advertising is described as promotional messages conveyed to the public through words, speech, and images. Marketing and advertising are two distinct activities. Marketing is the overall strategy to sell an item or service to a particular demographic of people, while advertising is one of the many tactics utilised to execute that plan. The method of creating and distributing messages that promote a product, service, or idea is referred to as advertising. Organisations and companies use advertising for brands as an approach to increase client loyalty and increase their client base. Besides that, brand promotion may help in provoking a favourable and fast reaction to specific products and companies. When imagery in advertising establishes a positive connection with the brand or business in order to convince consumers to purchase the goods, this is known as synergy in advertising. Ideas and concepts about the brands are promoted through image advertisements. Advertising typography informs readers of what is being read and why it is relevant to them. The way that readers process information is also influenced by typography; the most effective typography draws in customers. Advertising slogans are short, memorable phrases that sum up a company's essence and the main points of its advertising campaign. Print promotional techniques such as advertisement posters are used by companies, organisations, organisations, etc. An advertisement, or just "ad," is a method or service used to advertise a good, service, or event. This is an attempt to get the attention of consumers. Large-scale, detailed digital or print advertisements that promote a brand, business, service, or campaign are known as billboard advertisements.

Learning aim B-

Media specialism-

The media sector that I most want to work in is the film sector. This is because I have always had a passion for it, and through the skills I've learned I feel disciplined enough to create high quality products. The filmmaking skills that I've evolved are being able to easily use eyeline matches, tell the difference between different types of shots and making sure everything I do is to the highest quality possible. I have also learnt about many editing techniques, and how to apply them to make a high quality product. Some of these include being able to alter the volume of clips, creating match on action cuts and seamless transitions. I have also learnt about all the pre-production processes before doing filming: such as a location recce, shot list, script and risk assessment. I have been able to use these skills in the different videos I've had to produce (Unit 10, Unit 16 and Unit 3). These units gave me a better insight into the creation of films and how to effectively create a high quality product.

Media and industry networks:

The media networks that me and my group have worked alongside to produce both our unit 10 film and unit 16 factual film are SilverScreen studios and Apollo LTD.

Blogging/vlogging

In the film industry, in order to run a successful blog/vlog, you must first establish what you want to achieve with it, get a name, choose a reliable provider, choose the different elements in which to design it the way you want to, create related content to the film, choosing to write content that will easily appeal to your audience, add tags so people can easily find it. To create a successful blog you need time, patience, ideas and most importantly a passion for what you're talking about.

Interviews

The film industry is very competitive, so getting a role requires skills and a lot of resilience. You should ask the interviewer questions related to the film and company you're hoping to work for, and to get a better understanding of the work ethic and many other different elements. To best prepare yourself for an interview, you should do outside research about the company and what they do, what previous workers have said about it and the general publics views on the company as a whole. You can also research other related film companies so you can get an idea of it. In order to make the best possible first impression in an interview, you need to seem competent enough to work there, be confident, a good character and be willing to any way of work.
